In 1920, Eddie Bauer, the founder of Eddie Bauer, opened a tennis equipment store in Seattle. Initially, the company manufactured and sold golf, badminton, and fishing equipment.

The brand experienced a turning point in 1936. Eddie Bauer, drawing on his own experience of suffering from hypothermia while winter fishing, developed fishing wear that incorporated down feathers inside the outer layer and then featured quilting. This idea of using down for warmth was inspired by the winter clothing worn by Russians. This resulted in the "Skyliner," the world's first down jacket with diamond-shaped quilting. With ribbed collars and cuffs, and large pockets that also function as hand warmers, it's a masterpiece that boasts a high level of perfection even as a prototype. Eddie Bauer holds a patent for the manufacturing method of this down jacket.

In 1942, at the request of the U.S. Air Force, Eddie Bauer also manufactured the B-9 flight parka, producing over 50,000 units. This made Eddie Bauer the first company to be authorized to use its logo on U.S. military uniforms.

In 1963, Jim Whittaker, the first American to successfully climb Mount Everest, wore the brand, which led to its widespread recognition both domestically and internationally as a leading American outdoor brand.
