HERNO

Herno black puffer jacket

Modernism rooted in tradition.
1948 | LESA, ITALY | Giuseppe Marenzi

Giuseppe Marenzi founded the brand in 1948 in Lesa, a town on the shores of Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. The brand name comes from the beautiful Erno River that flows near the workshop. In this town with its rainy and humid climate, Giuseppe began creating coats and jackets that could withstand the rain and wind blowing down from the Alps, while maintaining an elegant and high-quality Italian style.

In the 1960s, the brand launched cashmere coats, suits, and women's dresses. From the 1970s to the 1980s, it expanded into Europe, Japan, and America, spreading Italian style throughout the world.

In the 2000s, when Giuseppe's son, Claudio Marenzi, took over the business, HERNO experimented with how to blend tradition and modernity, utilizing the knowledge and skills cultivated through tailoring. The result was a new kind of luxury wear that combined sporty, functional high-tech materials with traditional textiles, all while incorporating distinctly Italian shapes.

A symbol of this transformation is the down jacket created in collaboration with Neil Barrett in 2008. Instead of using down packs as in the past, they injected down directly into a lightweight nylon fabric, resulting in a down jacket that weighed an astonishing 200 grams.

HERNO has applied its technology to overturn the image of down jackets as casual wear, releasing a series of dressy down jackets. With tailored jacket-type down jackets like the one pictured, and luxurious down coats that match delicate dresses for parties, the brand has succeeded in increasing its recognition as a high-end outerwear manufacturer. We will continue to keep an eye on their modern collections, which are tailored using classic techniques.
