A brand that designs lifestyles.
1968 | NEW YORK, USA | Ralph Rueben Lifshitzs

Polo Ralph Lauren is a lifestyle brand that focuses on traditional clothing unaffected by trends, and also handles a wide range of items including bags, shoes, watches, and even interior goods.

The founder, Ralph Lauren, whose real name is Ralph Reuben Lifshitz, began his career in the fashion world as a salesman for Brooks Brothers. Soon after, he worked as a tie designer at Beau Blumel, and in 1967, he launched his own brand called Polo to design ties that he wanted to create. At a time when narrow ties with subdued colors were the mainstream, he designed wide, brightly colored ties. When he sold these ties as a complete set with shirts and jackets, it quickly became popular and created a new trend in ties.

The following year, he became independent and launched Polo Ralph Lauren, which handles not only ties but also menswear in general. In 1970, he received the Coty American Fashion Critics Award, the most prestigious award in the American fashion industry. In 1971, he launched womenswear, and in 1974 he provided costumes for "The Great Gatsby," and in 1977 for "Annie Hall," and his sophisticated styling became a major topic of conversation.

In 1986, it became the first American apparel brand to open a flagship store in Paris.

In the early 1990s, Ralph Lauren created a trend of elegantly dressing down traditional wear with hit items like the "Big Polo," characterized by its oversized fit and embroidery at the hem. In 1993, they debuted RRL, a line that reinterpreted vintage workwear and military wear in a modern way. They also launched exclusive lines such as Ralph Lauren Purple Label and Ralph Lauren Timepiece & Jewelry, a line of authentic watches and jewelry handcrafted by artisans.

The brand's greatest appeal lies in its blend of traditional British style with sophisticated American touches, while remaining relevant to street fashion trends. In 2016, half a century after its founding, it received the Lifetime Achievement Award at The Fashion Awards, the most prestigious awards ceremony in the British fashion industry.
