Timberland

Pair of tan leather lace-up work boots with black padded collars

Boots that offer complete waterproofing.
1978 | New Hampshire, USA | Nathan Swartz

Nathan Schwartz, the founder, ran a shoe store in Boston, USA. In 1952, he acquired Abington Shoe Company. A few years later, his two sons, Sydney and Herman, joined the business, and they began their journey to becoming a full-fledged shoemaker.

Around 1960, the company began developing leather boots with superior cold-resistant, heat-resistant, and waterproof properties by employing various technologies. Then, in 1973, they released a completely waterproof boot using the groundbreaking injection molding method, along with nubuck leather and a thick rubber lug sole. This boot was named Timberland, and its high functionality made it a staple in outdoor and work environments. This success led the company to officially adopt Timberland, which had been the brand name, as its company name in 1978.

One of the company's most iconic items is the 6-inch Premier Boot, now affectionately known as the "Yellow Boot." This is an updated version of the aforementioned boot, which also gave Timberland its brand name. Not only is it completely waterproof, it features an anti-fatigue insole for exceptional comfort. Furthermore, the use of PrimaLoft insulation in the lining provides excellent warmth and breathability.

Since the early 1990s, its robust look, comfortable fit, and excellent compatibility with oversized items have made it a staple for hip-hop artists such as rappers and DJs. Even today, prominent artists such as Pharrell Williams have publicly declared their love for the brand, and it continues to collaborate with brands such as Supreme and A BATHING APE®.
